Almost everyone wants to do it. Envelope stuffing. It's the job of a lifetime. Companies will pay you up to $12.00 for every envelope you stuff. You can work as much or as little as you want to, and each envelope you stuff will earn you between $5 and $12 each. Plus, if you do envelope stuffing for one of these companies the company will provide all of the supplies you need. There will be no sales involved. You won't have to pay out any of your own money for postage or any other expenses for this envelope stuffing job. The company will also pay all the postage. It's all perfectly legal.
Right? WRONG!

Think twice before paying a start up fee for any "envelope stuffing job.

No one knows for sure how many Americans have been taken by envelope stuffing scams, but by my own personal estimate there have, unfortunately, been millions of people who believed the very convincing advertisements for envelope stuffing jobs the way I described them. These envelope stuffing programs charge between $15 and $45 for "registration fees" or similar types of fees before one can start his or her own envelope stuffing job.
So where's the catch?
First of all, these types of mail offers are illegal. If you receive them in the mail turn them in.
Secondly, don't believe them. What company would pay someone like your or me to do envelope stuffing at several dollars a shot when they can hire someone in their own office or someone who wants extra work on the side to stuff envelopes for pennies? And even if an employer was bound and determined and hire someone they've never met across the country to do this high-paying envelope stuffing job, what in the world would that company have to put in the envelopes to be able to afford and justify paying those ridiculous rates?
If you want to become one of these envelope stuffing tycoons and you're willing to pay the "registration fee" for one of these scams, you're going to get fleeced like a hairy sheep.
Have you ever met anyone who was driving around in a fancy imported car having made all their millions from envelope stuffing?
Me either.
If you don't take my advice and avoid these so-called envelope stuffing jobs here's what will probably happen: You will probably send between $15 and $75 to register yourself as a full fledged envelope stuffer. If you're lucky you will receive something in the mail. Many people don't receive anything at all. If you are one of the lucky envelope stuffers who at least gets a response, the contents of the envelope will probably contain all of your instructions so you, too, can become an envelope stuffing entrepreneur. You will be instructed to place advertisements promoting the exact same thing you responded to, envelope stuffing. When somebody else responds to the ad and sends the company their "registration fee", you -- supposedly -- will get paid the amount they promised you for stuffing one envelope. In the meantime, you've driven yourself crazy and spent all your own time and money promoting their shady business, and you may even get yourself in trouble with the postal inspector.
Although the most common is the envelope stuffing scam I've described, I've also heard of companies who promote envelope stuffing programs that are somewhat different. In some envelope stuffing programs (and this is not exactly spelled out clearly in the advertisement so you know it before you send your hard-earned money) you become your own independent envelope stuffing contractor. You have to find your own leads or addresses and address all the envelopes. That might be fine except you also have to pay all of the expenses yourself, including postage and envelopes. You don't get paid for each envelope. Instead, you're paid on commission. If and when someone orders, you'll get paid... hopefully. This type of envelope stuffing program has been used with burglar bars, security systems, and encyclopedias, but I haven't heard about it recently.
It's a shame. All that fleecing at not even one wool sweater to show for it.
In fairness it should be noted that there ARE legitimate envelope stuffing jobs out there. I've known many people who were paid alot of money to do envelope stuffing at home but the work pays just pennies each, not dollars. And more importantly, any legitimate envelope stuffing job will probably not charge you a single penny for any fee.
If you're interested in doing envelope stuffing at home but are having a problem finding envelope stuffing work at home, consider other types of work at home jobs that may offer the same flexibility as envelope stuffing jobs. There are many other types of work at home jobs out there. You may just need to find the right one to match your personality, skills and availability. You may not become an envelope stuffing millionaire overnight and the work might be somewhat more complicated than stuffing envelopes, but you'll get to work at home, you'll have something to put in the bank and -- thank goodness -- you won't get fleeced!
